Teaching and pedagogy
I teach classical sources alongside modern political theory and the cross-cultural study of religion, helping students move between close reading, historical context, and present-day questions.
Teaching philosophy
My courses treat the classroom as a place for rigorous interpretation and informed comparison. Students encounter Qurʾanic passages, jurisprudential arguments, historical narratives, and political theory as situated texts: each speaks from a particular intellectual world while inviting questions that remain urgent.
I scaffold difficult primary sources through vocabulary, guided reading, and structured discussion. In courses that bring Islamic traditions into conversation with modern statecraft or comparative religion, students learn to distinguish description from evaluation, attend to internal diversity, and make claims grounded in evidence.
My experience with university students and adult community learners has shaped a pedagogy that combines high expectations with clear intellectual pathways.
